CNN —A taxiing airplane collided with a shuttle bus at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Friday evening, injuring at least two people, the city’s fire department said. Six American Airlines employees on the bus were taken to a hospital to be evaluated, and no injuries were reported on the airplane, American Airlines said in an email. Air Wisconsin is a regional airline that performs flying services for American Airlines operating as American Eagle, according to the airline’s website. The collision happened “as we were rolling forward,” Kevis Mitchell, a passenger on the plane, told CNN. Looking out his window, Mitchell saw numerous emergency vehicles respond to the plane, he said.

CHICAGO (AP) — Two people were injured at Chicago's O’Hare International Airport Friday evening during an accident on the ground involving an airplane preparing for takeoff and an employee shuttle bus. Two passengers on the shuttle were transported to Ascension Resurrection hospital in Chicago with minor injuries from the accident around 7 p.m., WLS-TV reported. American Airlines said there were no injuries reported aboard the aircraft, while six American Airlines employees were transported to a hospital for evaluation. An image on the WLS-TV website showed damage to the nose of the airplane, which the station reported was a 50-seat aircraft loaded with passengers. American Airlines is severing ties with regional carrier Mesa Airlines, citing financial and operational struggles. The regional carrier is currently finalizing a contract to fly its CRJ-900 planes for United Airlines. In June, American raised pilot wages at its wholly-owned carriers to attract more talent as the industry battles a shortage. "Envoy and PSA recently announced new crew bases at PHX and DFW, respectively," Kerr said in a memo, referring to two regional carriers American owns itself. "Anything beyond that limit must be flown by United pilots" — not pilots from regional carriers like Mesa.

WASHINGTON, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Mesa Airlines (MESA.O) said late Saturday it is finalizing an agreement to operate regional flights for United Airlines (UAL.O) after an announcement it will wind down flights for American Airlines (AAL.O) early next year. American Eagle is a network of six regional carriers operating 3,400 daily flights under a codeshare with American – often flights to smaller regional cities. Three of the six are American Airlines subsidiaries, and three are contract carriers including Mesa. Mesa said the switch was prompted by a regional pilot shortage and American's actions related to that. But, Ornstein added in the Mesa memo, "American chose not to fund the higher pilot rates for their non-affiliated carriers.

American Airlines is dropping Mesa Air , citing concerns about its partner's financial and operational problems, an enormous blow to the regional airline that was struggling with increasing costs and the industry's pilot shortage. "American and Mesa agree the best way to address these concerns is to wind down our agreement." Large carriers like American, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines routinely contract regional airlines to fly many shorter routes and they account for roughly half of departures, though that number varies by airline. American plans to concentrate its flying with its wholly owned regional subsidiaries like Envoy and PSA, as well as an independent regional carrier SkyWest . The final Mesa flight for American will be on April 3 though American is slashing Mesa flights in March, Kerr said in his note.
